Geographical Information
Temperature.
Temperatures range between 16 degrees – 25 degrees celcius and are perceived as low to moderate which is favorable.
Altitude.
The altitude ranges between 1216 & 2100 meters above sea level. The area is a little bit higher and therefore cooler compared to adjourning Nyando which is low lying.
Soil
Momul Catchment is found in a region where volcanic eruptions occurred hence the origin of volcanic type soils. The soil can be classified as latosols i.e dark-red clay foam and in other areas black cotton soils. These soils are rich in plant nutrients and can accommodate productively varied kind of Agricultural crops due to being rich in availability of nutrients and possessing good water holding capacities.
Rainfall.
Rainfall ranges between 1,000 mm and 2,400 mm annually. The area receives the relief type of rainfall which is influenced by the higher elevation above the lake basin and which has a cooling effect on the moisture laden winds. The rain falls mainly in two seasons; the long and short rains during the months of March/April and October/November respectively.
